The new luxury lounge and sleepwear brand bringing downtime up a notch07/09/2016
Beautifully constructed in sumptuous silk charmeuse, Hesper Fox’s debut loungewear collection features nine mix-and-match pieces in classic yet modern silhouettes. Boyish sleep shirts, feather-light camisoles and gowns, flirty shorts and playsuits, box-cut tops, fluid trousers and decadent robes create an elegant, easy-luxe downtime wardrobe. These are absolute head-turners!
The Bloomsbury Collection, the brand’s new range launched yesterday, featuring two exclusive new prints inspired by the eccentric, distinctly British style of the Bloomsbury Set, a group of free-thinking artists, writers and thinkers active in the early 20th-century who “lived in squares, painted in circles and loved in triangles”. We met with Hesper Fox’s creative director, Kristi Edwards, to find out more about the brand.
How did the idea for Hesper Fox come about?
It was one of those light bulb moments one Christmas morning - amongst the champagne and early-start mince pies. My husband had given me a pair of silk PJs but commented that he had searched high and low to find me something that I (and not just he) would love; something bold and luxurious that sat away from the very lingerie-driven styles and the cutesy-pie printed sets that don’t feel so cutesy-pie on someone older than late teens….
What makes the Hesper Fox brand so unique?
I think probably the attitude we take to colour and print (all prints are exclusive to us) and the time that goes into creating classic shapes with a modern twist that will hold some crossover appeal, enabling a lot of styles to be worn comfortably outside the house paired with ready-to-wear wardrobe items. I loved what was already on offer in the nightwear market but wanted to create something that was different in terms of colour and shape.
What is the brand’s greatest achievement to date?
Securing our first US stockist - our Autumn Winter ’16 range will be stocked in Neiman Marcus in Los Angeles (one of my favourite stores).
What is the next for the brand?
I am working on prints, colours and styles for the AW’17 range and we are looking forward to securing more UK-based and international stockists. For SS’17, we have introduced some beautiful silk/cotton and cotton poplin pieces so we will look to continue expanding our offering.
Finally, what are your (the founder’s) style essentials?
I am a big fan of strong, bold women who walk their own line - who have an identifiable style stamp but I have to say, my own style borders on schizophrenic. In my head it’s always grown-up, minimal black, lots of denim and “keep it simple” (and that’s where I generally end up) but my heart LOVES a clash of print and colour. I am a big fan of James Perse T-shirts and dresses (perfect fit and great quality) and their shirt dresses are superb for summer. I am an unashamed thief of my husband’s cashmere in winter (the bigger the better) and I have a wardrobe full of trainers. The other side of my style personality loves floaty Zimmerman dresses and bold Marni colour and print. My never-leave-home-without item is Nars lipstick in Jungle Red. Great if you’re in jeans and a T-shirt and need to make yourself looked pulled-together in a hurry!
